AEDC ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF RESEARCH

The Arkansas Economic Development Commission (AEDC) Assistant Director of Research is responsible for fostering increases in federal research and development (R & D) funds,
company investment in research, and improvements in the level of science and engineering
education in the state. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Special Job Requirements:

Typical Functions:

Provides administrative management of industry research and development tax credit program. Develops and revises application forms and guidelines, reviews new industry applications, advises industry CFO’s regarding items that will qualify, receives and reviews annual expenditure reports and tasks involving and issuing certificates. Coordinates and manages multi-university research initiatives under the Experimental Program to Stimulate Cooperative Research (EPSCoR) -federal grant program. Writes new grants or secure other supplemental funding for Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) student pipeline projects. Serves on numerous boards and advisory groups/councils. Organizes and coordinates the efforts of the Arkansas Mathematics Science and Technology Coalition. Organizes and coordinates the efforts of the Task Force for the Integration of Technology into the Public School Curriculum. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices. Knowledge of policies and procedures. Knowledge of public school education. Knowledge of state budgetary, human resources, and purchasing procedures. Knowledge of organizational skills and practices. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability read and comprehend scientific and technical literature.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a master’s degree in advanced science, mathematics or engineering; plus five years of experience in advanced science, mathematics or engineering, including two years in a managerial or supervisory role.
