ASP EXECUTIVE SECURITY GUARD

The Arkansas State Police Executive Security Guard is responsible for providing security for the personnel, buildings, and grounds at the Governor's Mansion. This position has regular contact with agency staff, Governor's Mansion staff, and guests. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Special Job Requirements:

Frequent shift work and exposure to an element of danger are required. This position requires the employee to carry fire arms and wear security identification.

Typical Functions:

Controls access to the grounds, identifies individuals and has them sign in and out, or ensures they are greeted. “Scheduled” guests and meetings are to be handled as a “Mansion Event” and an EPD officer should be in position to greet the guest 10 minutes prior to the meeting or event. Maintains communications with the first family, their staff, the Mansion staff, detail members and supervisors, and is familiar with the functions and limitations of the phone systems, the radio systems, and the computer communication tools, as well as with reference tools and materials used to locate persons or agencies (Example: Phone lists, Rolodex, NGSA book, “Outlook” Computer address books and internet web pages, Legislative and Governors directories, Phone book). Operates and monitors the security systems and video equipment and follows protocols when potential security breaches are discovered. Accepts and inspects all mail and deliveries for suspicious or damaged envelopes and boxes, fills out receipt forms when applicable, deposits mail in appropriate boxes, and notifies recipients of deliveries. Patrols grounds by walking and/or driving an appropriate vehicle daily, checking for: hazards, vandalism, problems with the Mansion lighting, and any security related problems, following protocols to report any deviations that require appropriate action. Monitors inmates assigned to perform maintenance/groundskeeper duties and is aware of the inmate count. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of public safety methods and techniques. Ability to patrol buildings and grounds, investigate accidents, and enforce public safety regulations. Ability to inspect buildings and grounds and detect fire safety hazards. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to restrain or subdue unruly persons. Ability to assign, coordinate work activities, and monitor the performance of co-workers and/or subordinates.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma, plus two years of work experience, including one year of experience in security or a related field. Must posses a valid Arkansas state motor vehicle operators license. Must be able to complete the Arkansas Law Enforcement Certification Training established by ACA 12-9-106. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
