DFA TAX AUDIT ADMINISTRATOR
The Department of Finance Administration (DFA) Tax Audit Administrator is responsible for overseeing/directing the activities of the Office of Field Audit. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Special Job Requirements:
Typical Functions:
Oversees/directs the activities of the Office of Field Audit which includes auditing for Excise
Taxes and Income Taxes and the collection of taxpayer debts owed to the Department of
Finance and Administration.
Provides leadership, assistance, and discussion to/with Field Audit District Managers
regarding tax laws, tax regulations, and department directives.
Promotes uniformity regarding tax issues among the states by participating with national tax
organizations.
Researches and discusses proposed legislation during the year and prepares impact
statements for proposed legislation presented during legislative sessions.
Participates with other tax and legal sections within the Department to provide service to
taxpayers.
Prepares biennial and annual budgets for the Office of Field Audit.
Reviews and promotes enhancements regarding auditing procedures, staff/taxpayer
relationships and computer hardware and software resulting in an efficient use of staff time
and taxpayer communications.
Works with superiors, taxpayers, legislators and peers to resolve issues regarding audits,
liens or other tax related issues.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Knowledge of tax laws and regulation relating to state tax matters.
Knowledge of computer software.
Ability to supervise a subordinate professional and administrative support staff.
Ability to analyze financial information and prepare reports.
Ability to communicate with a variety of people from varied backgrounds (both verbally and in writing).
Ability to discuss, analyze, and resolve problems.
Minimum Qualifications:
The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in accounting; plus nine years of progressively more responsible experience in auditing, accounting or a related field, including five years in a managerial capacity.
