The Department of Human Services (DHS) / Division of County Operations (DCO)
County Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the operation of a division of a large county
office. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Typical Functions:
Directs activities of office staff through supervisors by recommending for hire, training, assigning work schedules, and evaluating staff performance.
Conducts casework interviews as needed to interpret policy and determine eligibility for
assistance regarding the programs.
Conducts weekly staff meetings, determines staff caseload, and reviews work.
Coordinates programs with other state and federal agencies by answering questions and
gathering information and attends seminars and meetings to obtain and discuss policy
and procedure information.
Monitors and authorizes expenditures, reimbursement for clients, maintains inventory, and
requisitions supplies.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Knowledge of the principles and practices of human resources and organizational
management.
Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
Knowledge of community referral services.
Ability to plan work unit objectives and operational activities and to assign and direct the
work of subordinates.
Ability to prepare and review oral and written information and materials.
Ability to assess the effectiveness of programs and take corrective action as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in sociology, general business, public administration, or a related field; plus two years of experience in a human services program, including one year in a supervisory capacity.
