FIRE & SAFETY COORDINATOR
The Fire and Safety Coordinator is responsible for coordinating fire and safety activities. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Special Job Requirements:
Typical Functions:
Conducts fire and safety inspections of buildings and grounds for compliance violations
by checking rooms, hallways, and storage areas for hazards, such as worn electric
cords, broken equipment, trip/fall hazards, and proper storage. Identifies violations
and initiates corrective actions.
Maintains fire equipment by inspecting, servicing, and testing fire extinguishers, automated sprinkler systems, alarm systems, and other warning systems.
Documents deficiencies and takes corrective action.
Develops lesson plans and conducts training classes for public safety officers in fire fighting techniques and maintains training records and certificates on participants in fire fighting academy classes.
Conducts fire investigations to determine cause, origin, and damage and writes
investigative reports.
Posts signs, notices, posters, and other information relating to fire and safety prevention.
Patrols buildings, hallways, and other areas to keep staff and residents informed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Knowledge of fire codes, rules, and regulations.
Knowledge of fire investigations and building inspections techniques.
Ability to conduct fire and safety inspections and the enforcement of fire codes.
Ability to test and maintain fire suppression equipment and alarms.
Ability to prepare and conduct safety training classes.
Minimum Qualifications:
The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus two years of experience as fire fighter, fire safety inspector or a related field.
